Day 106
Saturday, July 12, 2014
On Friday I worked on finishing washing up excess cookware,
and pulling out random things here and there to toss into the yardsale
pile. In the late afternoon TGF and
DGS15 got here. We finished pricing the
stuff in the house, and loaded up the truck and trailer (she drove it and
brought DGS). She came back again just
after dark and we loaded up the car.
I got up this morning a little after 5:00. TGF was supposed to pick me up at 6:30, but
she called before 6:00 to say she was on the way. She and DGS had already unloaded the car,
plus the truck and trailer. She and I
loaded the truck and trailer with everything left, and went out to the yard sale
site.
This yardsale was originally instigated by one of her
friends, who thought having a multi family sale would be a good idea. He set everything up, and it was to be on his
vacant lot so there would be lots of room.
Well, as it turned out, first of all the boys forgot to mow
the grass .. so while we were getting things set up they were running the
annoyingly loud lawnmower and weedeater.
Secondly, the “10” families turned out to only be 3 of us .. the guy who
started all this decided not to bother himself!! And thirdly, there was for the most part NO
shade, and it went into the high 90s today.
There was a tree across the street, and for a while we were able to sit
off to one side in some shade. Then we
had to actually move into the street (a side street with no traffic) .. and
then even that was gone.
There was almost no traffic, even with a lot of advertising
and with signs up. I was hot, tired,
miserable; and TGF was completely disgusted.
In the end, after expenses (helping pay for gas for the 6 trips out here
and back), paying the boys who helped load and unload (mainly DGS15 and BGS12),
and busying some breakfast biscuits, I cleared a grand total of about $50. OK, granted, at least it wasn’t a loss. But it wasn’t really worth the amount of
effort either.
I had originally said I’d donate anything left over .. but
that was before I realized that about 95% of it is left over!! But all 3 of us agreed that this was a major screw-up, so we’ll consider doing it
again. Only next time, TGF will be “in
charge”; and it will be in a location that has plenty of traffic, and shade!!
For now, most of the stuff is neatly piled in a back
corner. Since it’s all already
priced, half the work is already
done. I may or may not find much to add
to it. But for now, I will concentrate
on trying to get packed and ready to move.
After I got home . after getting off my feet for awhile … I
felt restless. I changed the litter box,
and then packed up everything except drawers in the secretary (desk). I felt like that was a good accomplishment,
to balance out an otherwise unproductive day.
Tonight I’m just going to watch midnless TV and rest!! I’m too tired to feel discouraged, depressed,
or anything more energetic than bored with TV reruns!
